Liability In Brooklyn Pedestrian Accidents
Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents. According to the IIHS, “A total of 6,516 pedestrian deaths occurred in 2020. Pedestrian fatalities increased 4 percent from 2019, and account for 17 percent of all crash fatalities. Although pedestrian deaths were 13 percent lower in 2020 than in 1975, they have increased 59 percent since reaching their lowest point in 2009.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident.
- Distracted driving
- Inclement weather
- Driver intoxication
- Driver fatigue
If a driver is speeding and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any victim that died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
