The New York construction site experienced its 29th fatal accident in the last two years on Friday, December 9th. Around 8:00 a.m., 59-year-old Wilfredo Enrique was working on the façade of a new residential development when he fell to his death.
Enrique was employed by Two Trees Management. He was working on the construction site located at the old Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn when the accident occurred. City officials closed the site after the accident to determine the exact cause of the deadly accident.
The NYC Department of Building website revealed a number of complaints pertaining to this construction site. The most recent complaint was the scaffold failed to meet the building safety code standard. Enrique fell approximately 4 floors from the master climbing work platform. This fatal fall came shortly after Two Trees Management failed to safeguard the platform.
Since the inception of the construction, 41 complaints have been filed. The Department of Building issued 27 violations. The majority of these violations were deemed immediately hazardous. Three of the violations were still open at the time of the accident.
This accident marks at least the 11th accident his year. The construction boom in New York has resulted in an increase in construction jobs in the city. Although this construction boom recorded 138,200 construction jobs this past year, it has also resulted in many injuries and deaths.
