It is with much luck that nobody was injured in a New York crane accident last Thursday. A heavy gust sent a crane flying into 3 World Trade Center on Thursday, August 11, 2016, slamming its pulley system into a 12th floor window. Construction workers at the site were pulling the unloaded line and hook of a crane standing on the top of the WTC building that was under construction when the accident happened.
The construction crew was bringing the cables to the 83-story building to prepare for inclement weather when a gust of wind sent a weighted ball attached to the crane’s line into a glass panel of the building. The skyscraper is currently unoccupied, which is the reason why no one was injured in what could have been a catastrophic construction site accident. The spokesman for Tishman Construction, John Gallager, stated to the press that the glass window that was shattered in the accident would be replaced and that the accident is being investigated.
Yet Another Accident To Prove the Need for Safer Construction Site Procedures
Construction site accidents have become a common occurrence in New York City. Although some accidents are not avoidable, others can be prevented. If the contractors and project owners take certain precautionary and preventive measures, the majority of these tragic accidents can be avoided, or at least the extent of the injuries can be reduced.

When construction site accidents, such as crane collapses, occur, both construction workers as well as innocent bystanders can be seriously injured or killed. These victims and their loved ones may have a valid personal injury claim or wrongful death claim against the responsible parties.
