Liability For Manhattan Construction Accidents
Falls are one of the leading causes of serious injury and death at construction sites. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “In 2019, there were 401 fall fatalities out of 1,102 total fatalities in construction (BLS data). Falls are a hazard found in many work settings, but construction has the most fatal falls out of all industries and represents 51% of all falls nationally.” There are a number of steps that construction companies can take to protect workers from falls.
- Workers should be well trained.
- Ladders should be properly reinforced at the bottom.
- Workers should be given personal protective equipment when working at heights.
A building owner or general contractor could be held strictly liable for a worker injured in a New York fall under the scaffold law. The scaffold law covers most gravity related accidents where a worker falls or is hit by a falling object. Any person that is injured in a construction fall may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A construction accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
