Liability For Coney Island Car Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run collisions. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities that resulted from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 were the highest number ever recorded (NHTSA, 2017).” Many factors could contribute to a hit-and-run collision.

  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions
  • Driver intoxication

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. If a driver flees the scene of a collision, they could face criminal liability. Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
