Liability In Queens Hit-And-Run Car Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run collisions. According to AAA, “There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities that resulted from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 were the highest number ever recorded (NHTSA, 2017).” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a semi-truck accident.

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Driver fatigue

It is illegal to flee the scene of any collision that results in bodily injury or death. A large number of hit-and-run collisions are due to drivers that were either distracted or speeding. If a driver hits a scooter rider while they are speeding, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The family of any person that is killed in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, drivers will often fight hard to deny liability for any collision. This is why it is so important that all evidence is properly preserved after any crash.
