Liability For Buffalo Truck Accidents

Far too many people are killed or seriously injured in truck accidents every year. According to the IIHS, “There were 35,766 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2020 in which 38,824 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. The fatality rate per 100,000 people ranged from 4.9 in Massachusetts to 25.4 in Mississippi.” There are a number of steps that truck drivers should take in order to prevent truck accidents.

  • Truck drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Truck drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Truck drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

All truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person that is injured in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover many of the expenses that can come with a serious collision.
