Liability For Henrietta Bicycle Accidents
Bicyclists are uniquely vulnerable to the hazards posed by motor vehicles. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Bicycle trips make up only 1% of all trips in the United States. However, bicyclists account for over 2% of people who die in a crash involving a motor vehicle on our nation’s roads.” There are many steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting bicyclists.
- Drivers should slow down during periods of inclement weather.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
- Drivers should maintain at least three feet of separation from cyclists by the side of the road.
Every driver has a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting bicyclists. If a driver fails to slow down and collides with a pedestrian or cyclist, they could be held liable through a civil claim. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
