Liability In Lewiston Bicycle Accidents
Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in bicycle accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Bicycle trips make up only 1% of all trips in the United States. However, bicyclists account for over 2% of people who die in a crash involving a motor vehicle on our nation’s roads.” Victims of bicycle accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting any pedestrian, bicyclist or domestic animal in the roadway. If a driver fails to reduce their speed to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that is killed due to the negligent actions of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
