BRONX, NEW YORK (April 11, 2023) – A 64-year-old bicyclist has tragically died in a Bronx hit-and-run collision by the intersection of Williamsbridge Avenue and Pierce Avenue.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:20 on Wednesday. A car hit the bicyclist and fled the scene of the collision.

Liability For Bronx Hit-And-Run Collisions

Far too many people are injured or killed every year in hit-and-run collisions. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “In 2016, there were 1,980 fatal hit-and-run crashes resulting in 2,049 fatalities. This is the highest annual number of hit-and-run fatalities or crashes recorded since NHTSA began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a Bronx hit-and-run collision.

  • Speeding
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions
  • Distracted driving

All drivers are supposed to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a bicyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that died in a hit-and-run collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. It is crucial that all evidence is preserved after any crash.
