Liability In Bloomsbury Semi-Truck Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in semi-truck accidents. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “Fatigue, drinking alcohol, and speeding are major factors in motor vehicle crashes overall. Although their presence does not always result in a crash, these three factors, as well as other driver, vehicle, and environmental factors, can increase the risk that a crash will occur.” There are many steps that truck companies can take in order to reduce serious collisions.

  • Semi-trucks should be regularly inspected and properly maintained.
  • Semi-truck drivers should be well-trained.
  • Semi-truck drivers should receive periodic medical exams.

All truck drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. They must continuously scan the road ahead of them in order to avoid hitting other vehicles. The vast majority of rear-end collisions are due to drivers that are traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions or following other vehicles too closely. Indeed, there is a rebuttable presumption of negligence for any driver that rear-ends another vehicle. Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injure due to the negligence of a truck driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Many victims may not realize the full extent of their injuries for several months or years after a collision. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
