According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “Fatigue, drinking alcohol, and speeding are major factors in motor vehicle crashes overall. Although their presence does not always result in a crash, these three factors, as well as other driver, vehicle, and environmental factors, can increase the risk that a crash will occur.” There are many steps that truck companies can take in order to reduce serious collisions.
- Semi-trucks should be regularly inspected and properly maintained.
- Semi-truck drivers should be well-trained.
- Semi-truck drivers should receive periodic medical exams.
All truck drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. They must continuously scan the road ahead of them in order to avoid hitting other vehicles.
