The victims were on a Learjet 60 that had recently departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.It was bound for the Bahamas with two crew members and a total of seven passengers. At approximately 12:47 PM, crew members reported that this plane was experiencing turbulence and light clear ice that was manageable for the pilots.They contacted the control tower and were given permission to ascend to 37,000 feet to avoid precipitation. Less than a minute following that contact, a Mayday call was initiated and the jet began descending rapidly.The jet eventually struck the ground on South Military Trail near Cresthaven Boulevard. It left a burning crater in the ground, not far from the entrance of a mobile home park.Firefighters and first responders were called to the scene of the incident to help all of the victims. Sadly, all nine people on board the jet died due to their injuries.
